College of Construction Engineering Successfully Held Online Forum on Advanced Technologies for Ice Drilling, Exploitation of Underground Resources and Climatology in Polar and Mountainous Regions

On 30 November 2023, College of Construction Engineering successfully held an Online Forum on Advanced Technologies for Ice Drilling, Exploitation of Underground Resources and Climatology in Polar and Mountainous Regions. Four experts and scholars from the Institute of Geography, Russian Academy of Sciences, Moscow, Russia were invited to give academic lectures for our faculties and students during the online forum. Professor CAO Pinlu, Vice Dean of College of Construction Engineering, Jilin University, presided over the opening ceremony and delivered a speech. National Overseas High-level Talent, Professor Pavel Talalay, Director of the Institute of Polar Science and Engineering, Jilin University, Professor Alexey Markov, Leader of Geophysics Group of the Polar Research Centre of Jilin University, Professor Wang Rusheng and Associate Professor Hong Jialin, together with other representatives of the college faculty members and postgraduate students with a total number of 41 people participated in the forum through online and offline and listened to the lectures attentively.

Professor CAO Pinlu warmly welcomed the four experts from the Russian Academy of Sciences on behalf of the college and expressed his gratitude to all the participants for their support and help to the college's international cooperation and exchange work. This online academic forum focuses on the cutting-edge technology of ice drilling and glacier mountainous climatology, which brings knowledge sharing in the field of international advanced technology to the teachers and students of the college and further promotes the continuous cooperation and friendly exchange between the College of Engineering and the Russian Academy of Sciences.

Dr Vladimir Mikhalenko, Prof Stanislav Kutuzov, Prof Iuliia Chizhova and Dr Diana Vladimirova from the Institute of Geology, Russian Academy of Sciences delivered lectures at the forum. The four experts shared their research results, benchmarked the cutting-edge research technologies in the field, exchanged their research experience with the faculty and students, and broadened their research ideas and academic horizons. The content was brilliant and the atmosphere was warm. After the lecture, teachers and students from the college enthusiastically asked questions and had an in-depth discussion with the experts.

The International Academic Forum is an important part of the college's international cooperation and exchange work, which plays a positive role in creating a better internationalised schooling environment and stimulating the pioneering spirit of the college's teachers and students. In the future, the college will endeavour to build a higher level of academic achievements exchange and display platform, invite foreign experts to visit our college to carry out lectures for teachers and students face to face, comprehensively improve the quality of the college members, and open up the road of innovation and development for teachers and students to explore and seek breakthroughs together.
